Afriqua drops radical new ‘MAXI SINGLE’ EP
Out now on CORE Records
Friday, June 16, 2023 - Berlin-based dance music author Afriqua unveils ‘MAXI SINGLE’, a cosmic constellation of gleaming disco, energetic house, and pulsing techno, released today on CORE Records! As innovative as it is electrifying, the EP reaffirms the artist’s knack for crafting epic dance floor excursions with crossover appeal.
‘MAXI SINGLE’ (EP) is out now via all platforms.
Checking in at four songs, ‘MAXI SINGLE’ swerves between styles and sensations. For ‘OBJCT FNTS’, Afriqua fuses a jittery bassline with interstellar synths for a playful call to romance. Meanwhile, on ‘XPRSS YRSLF’, he combines punchy kick drums, kinetic hi-hats and needling strings for an individualistic anthem that’s as thrilling as it is surreal. For good measure, he injects a classic Charles Wright sample N.W.A. used for their song of the same name, a fitting touch for a classically trained musician who was shaped by the sounds of hip-hop. Succinct yet expansive, ‘MAXI SINGLE’ is an exercise in both control and imagination.
Conceived after a breakup, ‘MAXI SINGLE’ evokes both emotional and creative catharsis. “This EP totally broke open the doors to a whole new studio process for me”, Afriqua says. “I realized that I could be the protagonist of my music in a different way.”
Afriqua recently performed at CORE Festival in Brussels, testing out some of the new grooves from ‘MAXI SINGLE’ amidst the raw beauty of Europe’s capital’s nature surroundings.

About Afriqua
For Afriqua, genre is just a limit to the imagination. Born Adam Longman Parker, Afriqua remembers being inspired by locals like Pharrell, Timbaland and Missy Elliott as he was being raised in Virginia. With the instincts of a classically trained musician and the hip-hop sensibilities of a turntablist, the Berlin-based creator blends gleaming disco with energetic house and techno for dancefloor excursions that defy classification. After his parents won a raffle for piano lessons at their synagogue, Afriqua found himself immersed in music. By age 12, he’d placed at the DMC World DJ Championship. After graduating high school, he enrolled in London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Music. From there, he traveled to Berlin where he established himself as a popular DJ in area clubs and beyong. After releasing stellar one-off singles throughout the 2010s, Afriqua continued building momentum with ‘Colored’ (2019), his debut LP on R&S records, and self-released singles like ‘Always’ (2022). His shapeshifting musicality and knack for experimentation led to his latest adventure as the first signing of CORE Records, a brand-new boutique label within Tomorrowland. With a new deal and a formidable EP at his back, Afriqua is set to reach new heights in 2023.
