Johannes Brecht Trio releases jazz-electronica album ‘Disparaître’

Allowing his music to shine with newfound clarity and depth

Friday, June 28, 2024 - After over a decade as a prominent figure in Germany’s electronic music scene, Johannes Brecht takes a bold step back, allowing his music to shine with newfound clarity and depth. Reuniting with his old jazz ensemble – drummer Antonio Farris and guitarist Matteo Capreoli – after 15 years apart, they have reignited the creative fires that their collaboration sparks. Together, they embarked on an intensive three-day jam and recording session at Brewery Studios in Berlin, capturing the raw, spontaneous moments that define their musical reunion. This is ‘Disparaître’, which is out now on CORE Records.

‘Disparaître’ is out now via all platforms.

“We weren’t in touch all that much, but something made me want to reach out again", says Johannes Brecht.

After having gone their separate ways and pursued their individual musical paths – Matteo with his singer-songwriter career, Antonio drumming for reggae bands, and Johannes making a name for himself in the electronic music scene – they didn’t drift further apart, nor did they revert to their former selves. Their individual growth as musicians brought a new dynamic to the trio, yet their mutual understanding remained as strong as it was during their younger days playing together at local bars.

“Although we never recorded anything at the time, that period stayed with us. We really understood each other musically so well", reminisces Johannes.

'Disparaître' tells the story of musicians unafraid to explore and trust their instincts. The album's 9 tracks are fresh and exciting, capturing the thrill of improvisation without sacrificing sonic precision. Johannes Brecht's post-production work maintains the integrity of the live recordings while refining them into a polished and cohesive album experience.

The beauty of 'Disparaître' lies in its exploration, reshaping, and testing of genres – allowing music to transcend known boundaries. The album seamlessly blends the worlds of electronic music and jazz, allowing each to thrive and enrich the other. Tracks like ‘Call Me Monday’ showcase this fusion with a driving techno beat and organic instrumentation that feeds off each other. Other tracks venture further, with ‘Pool’ and ‘Equinox’ using electronic manipulation to create otherworldly soundscapes.

Reflecting on the album’s journey, Johannes shares, "I missed this feeling of being part of a whole." For the trio, ‘Disparaître’ is not just a milestone; it’s a stepping stone towards further exploration.

Following the completion of their album, Johannes Brecht Trio is now gearing up for an upcoming tour scheduled for the autumn. They are eagerly anticipating bringing 'Disparaître' to life on stage.

About Johannes Brecht
Johannes Brecht is a name synonymous with elegance and authenticity in the electronic music scene. For over a decade, this Stuttgart-born producer has made waves with his masterfully executed productions, carving out a unique space in the fast-changing landscape of electronic music. With roots deeply embedded in jazz, Johannes has always prioritized spontaneity and independence, qualities that shine through in every track he creates. "I try to live an optimistic life, to enjoy the moment. With my music, I try to have this positive standpoint too," he says, and this philosophy is reflected in the uplifting nature of his sound.

Growing up in a family of musicians, Johannes started playing the piano and double bass at an early age, eventually finding his musical identity through jazz. His foray into electronic music began through a collaboration with deep house veteran Henrik Schwarz, releasing his first EP on Schwarz’s label in 2013. Over the years, Johannes has evolved continuously, surprising and delighting listeners with every new release. As a key member of the Diynamic label family and a close collaborator with Solomun, Johannes's work is consistently praised for its refreshing originality.

Eschewing the easy path, Johannes prefers using real instruments over samples, infusing his tracks with the vibrant energy of a jazz band. After eight years and numerous releases with Diynamic, Johannes is now embarking on a new journey with CORE Records, where he is set to release his new Johannes Brecht Trio album Disparaître
